YouTube's AI Music Assistant: Copyright-Free Tracks for Creators
## YouTube Rolls Out AI Music Assistant: Copyright-Free Tracks for Creators

YouTube is launching a new AI-powered tool, "Music Assistant," offering creators free, copyright-free instrumental music for their videos. The feature, gradually rolling out to US creators participating in the YouTube Partner Program and with access to Creator Music, allows users to generate custom tracks using text prompts.

As demonstrated in a YouTube Creator Insider video, users enter descriptions specifying desired instruments, mood, and video context within the Creator Music beta section. Suggested prompts are also available to aid users. Once generated, the tracks are free to download and use in videos without copyright concerns.

This builds upon YouTube's previous AI music experiments, including "Dream Track," powered by Google DeepMind's Lyria. While initially allowing 30-second tracks in the style of specific artists, Dream Track’s current iteration focuses solely on instrumental music, now being integrated into Creator Music. This new tool joins other AI music generators such as those from Stability AI and Meta, which also offer prompt-based music creation capabilities. YouTube has also explored AI music remixing for Shorts.

The Music Assistant's release comes amid significant growth in the creator economy, as exemplified by Epidemic Sound's 29% year-over-year revenue increase to $181.62 million in 2024. This growth highlights the increasing demand for high-quality, readily available music for online video content.

YouTube's simultaneous release of AI music tools and support for the NO FAKES Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at combating unauthorized deepfakes, underscores the company's navigation of the evolving AI landscape. The NO FAKES Act seeks to establish a federal right of publicity, protecting individuals' likeness and voice from unauthorized AI use. YouTube's involvement reflects its commitment to both innovation and responsible AI development.
