YouTube TV Overhaul: New Shorts Row, Design Unveiled
## YouTube TV App Gets Major Redesign with Dedicated Shorts Row

YouTube is rolling out a significant redesign of its TV app, focusing on improved navigation, enhanced user experience, and dedicated features for its short-form video content, YouTube Shorts. The update, slated for completion by the end of June 2025, includes several key improvements.

One of the most noticeable changes is the addition of a dedicated Shorts row within the Subscriptions tab. Previously, Shorts were integrated with regular videos, leading to a potentially cluttered viewing experience, especially considering Shorts' vertical format. This dedicated row offers a streamlined and visually appealing way to access short-form content on larger screens.

Further enhancing the personalized experience, a new "Top Channels" section will appear on the home tab, providing quick access to frequently watched and subscribed channels. This feature aims to reduce browsing time and allow users to easily find their preferred content. Additional "shelves" will also appear on the home tab, including "Continue your search," displaying the user's top three recent searches, and "From your top channels," suggesting content based on viewing history.

Other improvements include a new dedicated "Podcast" tab, mirroring a recent mobile app addition. The app will also feature loop playback for individual videos (not just playlists) and expand inline video previews to channel, subscription, and topics pages. The rollout of "Immersive Channel Previews" (fullscreen background previews) is already complete.

YouTube emphasizes that these changes reflect its ongoing commitment to improving the TV viewing experience. The goal is to create a more personalized, intuitive, and convenient platform for users to engage with the diverse content offered. The updates aim to make navigating and enjoying YouTube on TV screens a more streamlined and enjoyable experience. The company states that separate recommendation systems optimized for Shorts and long-form content haven't shown evidence of negative impact on long-form video performance. In fact, Shorts are presented as a valuable tool to reach a wider audience and drive traffic to longer videos.
