Reddit Down: Global Outage Impacts Millions
## Reddit Suffers Global Outage, Affecting Millions of Users

**New York, NY –** A widespread outage affecting the popular social media platform Reddit impacted millions of users globally on Monday, April 24. Downdetector, a website that tracks online service disruptions, registered over 62,000 outage reports by 11:48 a.m. ET. Reports surged from zero to over 40,000 in minutes, indicating a significant and sudden disruption. Users experienced difficulties accessing both the website and mobile app, with many encountering "server error" messages and an inability to load content. One user described seeing their notifications disappear and their Reddit feed become empty. Another user simply stated, "Looks like Reddit has crapped its pants again."

Reddit acknowledged the issue on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating it was "investigating elevated errors across reddit.com and the apps." The company posted a statement on its status page around 11:52 a.m. ET, confirming the elevated errors. By approximately 12:10 p.m. ET, Reddit announced that a fix had been implemented, and DownDetector reports showed a significant drop in outage reports, from approximately 100,000 to just over 2,000 shortly thereafter. While the platform appeared to be returning to normal for many, the exact cause of the outage remained unclear at the time of publication.

This is not the first major outage for Reddit. In November, a "bug in a recent update" was cited as the cause of a previous widespread disruption. In March, Reddit experienced several incidents, including "degraded performance for comments" and "an elevated level of API errors." These past events, along with Monday's outage, highlight the potential vulnerability of large-scale online platforms and their impact on millions of users who rely on them for communication, information, and community engagement. Newsweek reached out to Reddit for comment but did not receive a response. Reddit’s status page and various social media accounts will be monitored for further updates.
