## PS5 Pro Teardown Reveals Enhanced Cooling and GPU Upgrades

Sony Interactive Entertainment has released an official teardown of the PlayStation 5 Pro, revealing significant improvements in cooling and GPU technology compared to previous PS5 models. The teardown, featuring insights from PS5 Pro Mechanical Design Lead Shinya Tsuchida and PS5 Pro Electrical Design Lead Shinya Hiromitsu, details design changes aimed at improving performance and reducing noise.

Externally, the PS5 Pro features three distinctive "blades" – new airflow paths absent in earlier iterations – enhancing ventilation while maintaining the PS5 family aesthetic. Internally, a louver structure between the main unit and cover minimizes fan noise directed towards the user. The rear port placement has been adjusted to accommodate the high-density circuit design of the larger motherboard. Larger intake and exhaust vents further enhance cooling.

The PS5 Pro's cooling system has received substantial upgrades. A larger fan, featuring redesigned blades for improved airflow and quieter operation, is a key component. The design team prioritized quiet operation, a unique design philosophy for PlayStation consoles. The increased cooling capacity is also addressed by a more robust heat sink with additional heat pipes. Addressing concerns about liquid metal leakage in the original PS5, the PS5 Pro features fine grooves where the liquid metal is applied, ensuring more stable cooling.

Internally, the PS5 Pro boasts a significantly upgraded motherboard. Larger than its predecessor, it incorporates additional internal layers for more efficient signal routing, resulting in faster memory performance. The number of RAM chips has increased from eight to nine, with the addition of a DDR5 memory chip dedicated to slower processing, allowing the eight GDDR6 chips to focus on high-speed rendering. The GDDR6 RAM itself is also faster than in previous models. The PS5 Pro also includes a Wi-Fi 7 module, leveraging the latest technology for enhanced connectivity. The power supply unit is also larger, providing an additional 48W of output.

The PS5 Pro's design improvements underscore Sony's commitment to optimizing performance and user experience. These enhancements contribute to the console's ability to deliver advanced visual features, such as PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), an AI-driven upscaling technology that delivers sharper image clarity at high frame rates. The official teardown provides a comprehensive look at the engineering innovations driving the PS5 Pro's superior gaming capabilities.
