Gemini Live: AI Camera & Screen Share on Pixel 9 & Galaxy S25
Gemini Live AI Feature Rolls Out to Pixel 9 and Galaxy S25

Google and Samsung have announced the rollout of Gemini Live, a new AI feature offering real-time camera and screen sharing capabilities, to their latest flagship devices. Starting April 7th, owners of the Google Pixel 9 series and the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will have free access to this feature. Previously, these capabilities were only available to paid Gemini Advanced subscribers.

Gemini Live allows users to interact with the Gemini AI in real-time by showing it their camera view or sharing their screen. This enables a range of applications, from decluttering and organization assistance to receiving style advice while online shopping. Users can point their camera at a cluttered space and receive suggestions for categorization and optimization. Similarly, sharing a screen while browsing online retailers allows Gemini to offer personalized style recommendations or product comparisons. The AI can also assist with creative brainstorming, troubleshooting, and even improving social media content by providing feedback on layout and design.

Google's surprise April 2025 "Pixel Drop" made the Gemini Live camera and screen sharing features free for Pixel 9 series owners. This move is speculated to be partly driven by the impending April 10th release of the Pixel 9a, allowing Google to showcase a key AI feature without requiring a premium subscription on the lower-cost model. The decision to limit the free upgrade to the Pixel 9 series has drawn criticism from owners of older Pixel models.

Samsung’s rollout of Gemini Live on the Galaxy S25 series, also commencing April 7th, is being hailed as a significant step forward in mobile AI. The company highlighted the feature’s ability to streamline everyday tasks and make decision-making easier through natural conversational interactions. Accessing Gemini Live on Samsung devices is achieved by pressing and holding the side button.

While the feature is currently available on the Pixel 9 and Galaxy S25 lines, it is expected to be rolled out to other Android devices in the coming months as part of a broader upgrade from Google Assistant to Gemini. Gemini Live is currently unavailable for enterprise and education accounts and requires an internet connection. It is available in select countries and to users 18 years of age and older.
