Tucson Woman Dies Weeks After Wilmot Road Crash
TUCSON, Ariz. – Patricia Smith, 87, succumbed to injuries sustained in a March 4th collision on North Wilmot Road, according to the Tucson Police Department (TPD). The Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner notified TPD of Smith’s death on March 29th.
The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. near the St. Joseph’s Emergency Department driveway. Smith, driving a Ford Escape, was attempting a left turn from the southbound lanes of Wilmot Road onto the St. Joseph’s driveway when her vehicle was struck by a northbound Toyota Sienna driven by a 43-year-old man.
Witness accounts and evidence at the scene indicated that Smith was making a left turn at a point on Wilmot Road lacking traffic control. TPD determined neither driver was impaired at the time of the collision. Smith was transported to a hospital following the accident, where she later passed away. The specific location of the crash was in the 500 block of North Wilmot Road. TPD's investigation is concluded with the determination that neither driver was impaired.
