National Anti-Trump Protests Planned for April 5th
Nationwide protests are planned for Saturday, April 5, targeting President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, dubbed "Hands Off! A National Day of Action." Organized by a coalition of over 150 grassroots organizations and progressive groups, including Indivisible, MoveOn, and the 50501 Movement, the protests aim to counter policies affecting healthcare, immigration, education, and the environment.
Organizers cite policies such as closing Social Security offices, firing federal employees, Medicaid cuts, and rollbacks of DEI initiatives as key grievances. They describe the actions as "the most brazen power grab in modern history," alleging that Trump, Musk, and their "billionaire cronies" are assaulting the government, economy, and basic rights. The 50501 Movement, originating on Reddit, previously organized protests in February, including "No Kings on Presidents Day" demonstrations.
Over 950 events are planned across all 50 states, with hundreds anticipated in Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia, and 24 in New Jersey. The Philadelphia protest will be held at City Hall from noon to 3 p.m., preceded by a pre-rally event. A map of events is available on the 50501 Movement website. MoveOn anticipates approximately 12,500 protestors at a Washington D.C. rally on the National Mall, part of a projected nationwide participation exceeding 250,000, which organizers claim would be the largest single day of action since Trump's second inauguration. The D.C. event will feature speakers including Congressman Jamie Raskin and Congressman Maxwell Frost. Organizers urge nonviolent action and de-escalation techniques if confronted. The protests are driven by concerns about the administration prioritizing profit over people and the alleged undermining of community dignity.
