Louisville’s men’s basketball team has added a significant piece to its 2025-26 roster with the commitment of Xavier guard Ryan Conwell. The 6-foot-4 guard, a third-team All-Big East selection, announced his decision Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony. Conwell, who visited the University of Louisville on Tuesday, will be playing for his fourth school in four seasons.

Conwell, an Indianapolis native, began his collegiate career at South Florida in 2022-23 before transferring to Indiana State for the 2023-24 season, where he earned Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year honors. His performance at Indiana State included 12 games with 20 or more points. In 2024-25, Conwell was Xavier’s second-leading scorer, averaging 16.5 points per game on 45% shooting under coach Sean Miller. He led the Musketeers in 3-pointers made (99) and attempted (240), shooting 41.3% from beyond the arc. He also averaged 2.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.6 turnovers in 33 minutes per game. His career high of 38 points came during a Big East Tournament quarterfinal loss to Marquette, capping a streak of five consecutive 20+ point games – a feat unmatched at Xavier since the 2019-20 season. Former Xavier coach Sean Miller praised Conwell, calling him “one of America’s best guards.”

Over his career, Conwell boasts averages of 13 points per game on 44.7% shooting, with 39.3% from three-point range. He has also accumulated 374 rebounds, 239 assists, and 113 steals. At the time of his commitment, 247Sports ranked him as the 11th-best transfer available. Conwell’s arrival adds to a Louisville roster that includes returning players J'Vonne Hadley, Aly Khalifa, Kasean Pryor, Kobe Rodgers, Khani Rooths, and James Scott. They will be joined by newcomers Mikel Brown Jr. (McDonald's All-American), Sananda Fru (German big man), and Adrian Wooley (Kennesaw State transfer). The transfer portal closes April 22nd.
