BYU's Dybantsa Dunks to Fame at McDonald's All-American Game
Brooklyn, NY – BYU basketball signee AJ Dybantsa, the nation’s No. 1 ranked high school prospect in the class of 2025, made a memorable appearance at the McDonald’s All-American Game’s Sprite Jam Fest on Monday. Dybantsa, a 6-foot-9 forward from Utah Prep, executed a spectacular dunk over Chicago Sky WNBA star Angel Reese, earning a perfect score of 50 from the judges. The dunk, which saw Dybantsa take off from near half-court before soaring over the 6-foot-3 Reese for a powerful slam, quickly went viral on social media, generating widespread praise for its athleticism and skill.
While Baylor signee Tounde Yessoufou ultimately won the Sprite Jam Fest dunk contest, Dybantsa’s performance stole the show. Fans on social media expressed their amazement, with comments describing the dunk as “effortless” and “next-level talent.” Despite missing a between-the-legs dunk attempt in a later round, Dybantsa’s early success highlighted his impressive athleticism and potential. This marks the first time a BYU basketball signee has been named a McDonald’s All-American since 2000.
Dybantsa, who plans to be a one-and-done player at BYU, will begin classes on April 29th. He joins a BYU Cougars program that recently reached the Sweet 16 under head coach Kevin Young. His exceptional skills have already positioned him as a potential No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. The McDonald’s All-American Game itself, featuring top high school recruits like Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson (Kansas), and Cameron Boozer (Duke), took place Tuesday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The game showcased the top talent in the class of 2025, many of whom are projected to be high NBA draft picks. Dybantsa’s performance at the Sprite Jam Fest served as a strong preview of the exciting talent set to enter college basketball in the coming season.
