Brosnan, Mirren, Hardy Star in Paramount+'s MobLand
Paramount+'s new crime series, *MobLand*, stars a powerhouse cast including Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, Tom Hardy, and Paddy Considine. The series, created by Ronan Bennett ( *The Day of the Jackal*) and partly directed by Guy Ritchie, follows the Harrigan crime family as they battle their rivals, the Stevensons.
Brosnan portrays Conrad Harrigan, the patriarch of the Harrigan family, describing his character to GQ as "a mangled man who has charisma, but he’s someone who is dangerously on the edge." He noted his character's relationship with his equally "outrageous" wife, Maeve, played by Mirren. Mirren herself praised her working relationship with Brosnan, describing their similar work ethic as "seriously, but lightly," in an interview with Parade. The pair's collaboration extends beyond *MobLand*, with both starring in the upcoming Netflix film, *The Thursday Murder Club*. Their on-screen partnership has blossomed into an "unexpected" friendship, Brosnan shared with Entertainment Tonight.
Tom Hardy takes on the role of Harry Da Souza, the Harrigans' skilled "fixer," described in the official synopsis as "dangerous as he is handsome." The series centers on Harry's attempts to navigate the escalating conflict between the two families. Paddy Considine plays Kevin Harrigan, Conrad's son, while other cast members include Joanne Froggatt, Jasmine Jobson, Antonio Gonzalez Guerrero, Geoff Bell, Anson Boon, Felix Edwards, Lara Pulver, Daniel Betts, Mandeep Dhillon, and Alex Jennings.
Early reviews suggest *MobLand* relies heavily on underworld clichés, despite the star-studded cast. One critic noted the lack of originality and described the plotting as "stale," although Hardy's performance is highlighted as intensely menacing. Mirren's portrayal of Maeve, however, stands out as a "dragon-lady evil" figure, adding a compelling dynamic to the family drama.
*MobLand* premiered on March 30th and airs weekly on Sundays on Paramount+. New episodes are expected to continue the story of the Harrigans' and Stevensons' violent feud, although the series' future beyond the current season remains unconfirmed.
